After an almost two year hiatus from releases Astro Raph drops his latest single, Let Ya Fall, an energy infused, dark, throwback, electronica, indie dance, pop crossover, bass track.
The song is about living Contra Mundum says Astro, and the “genre-fucking” going on within the track itself is a testament to that. He began writing the song at a time signing a record deal with Cyborg Recordings in 2016 (facebook.com/cyborgrecordings). Astro’s EP “Mathematical Universe” shortly followed. Astro began music college that fall at Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Astro says that the greed that drives most/all of the music industry makes it a joke to anyone who actually cares about music. This leaves such people who do care about music no choice but to live Contra Mundum (Latin, ‘against the world.’) within an industry that caters to cronyism/sociopathy/popularity/stupidity/money/status ho pampering.
Let Ya Fall is about letting the power structures that say it’s not what you can do, but who you know that will get you somewhere. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know, they say. It’s the ideological structures that support the lazy fake power elite (for example people like Donald Trump) that say, it’s not the content of the music that matters, it’s how easily we can sell it to a dumbed down public and generate massive profits for ourselves while screwing over the artist, that matters.
[“To kill the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs” is an idiom used of an unprofitable action motivated by greed. It refers to one of Aesop’s Fables, numbered 87 in the Perry Index, a story that also has a number of Eastern analogues. – Wikipedia].
Most of the industry is about who you know, or who can open doors for you. You need a pimp. It’s a prostitution industry. It’s not a genuine creative industry, dedicated to the art of music. It’s an ethical and intellectual joke, a capitalist crusade, a criminal empire, a massive shit-pile.
Let Ya Fall is about letting these societal structures fall to the fucking ground. It’s a bug in the system. The political hemisphere in the most capitalist nation is making it clear to those who never before noticed the direction it’s going the fact that it’s garbage, so now we can finally all agree: capitalism, cronyism, colonialism, nationalism, right wingism, naziism. All garbage.
Only weak submissives worship the incompetent, unmerited people at the top who got there because they “knew somebody”, were born into it or cheated their way there (rather than merited it). The self-proclaimed “Gods” of humanity. The gate-keepers. All they will do is let you and me fall (they don’t give a fuck about us): so it’s our turn to Let Ya Fall.
Astro went to school for music despite his families discouragement and mocking, taking several theory classes, music history and beginning Jazz piano. Astro moved to Chicago in December 2017 and started an internship with Maek Records (www.maekme.com). Within several months Astro also connected with Proper Chicago Drum & Bass Crew (http://www.properchicago.com). He was accepted to SAE institute and plans to continue his education there. The inspiration and energy he gets from working with Maek and Proper inspired him to pump this track up even more, finally completing it in 2018. Astro was also recently accepted to AWAL Artists and is working on new music.
